Where to Bird in Bonner County

Sandpoint City Beach WaterLife Discovery Center

Depending on the season, look for gulls, waterfowl (ducks, loons, grebes, geese), Osprey, Bald Eagles, shorebirds, woodpeckers, swallows, Red-naped Sapsuckers, blackbirds, and more. You might be surprised with some unusual sightings.

Sandpoint City Park is very popular in the summer for swimming, walking, and boating.  The Idaho Fish and Game WaterLife Discovery Center has a small nature center with limited hours but the trails that wander through the peaceful forested area, creek, pond, and lakeside are open to the public during daylight hours.

Denton Slough, Clark Fork Delta, Johnson Creek Access

Access and bird this area from pullouts along highway 200 and two boat launches, or better yet canoe or kayak the delta! This area is rich in waterfowl plus riparian and forest species that will vary with the season and migrations.

Look for grebes, ducks (American Wigeon, Green-winged and Cinnamon Teal, Northern Pintail, Wood Ducks, Bufflehead, and more), Great Blue Heron, Osprey, Bald Eagles, swallows, warblers, woodpeckers, and chickadees.
