Tubbs Hill

This wonderful, downtown Coeur d’Alene park is located on the shores of beautiful Coeur d’Alene Lake. Walk the trails, relax or play in the park, go swimming. Depending on the season look for forest birds, waterfowl, Bald Eagles, even nesting Osprey in McKuen Park (look up or check out the web cams in the spring).

Types of trails: Vary from level paved to dirt/rock that are level to moderate. The Friends of Tubbs Hill have maps and information. (here is a link to their site if you’d like one)

Cougar Bay Preserve

Birders love the Preserve for its trails that access wetlands, lake shore, and forest habitats that attract a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Type of trails: Dirt paths.

Killarney Lake

Killarney Lake is one of the many lakes in the Chain Lakes area, providing endless opportunity for birders.

Type of trails: Level paved paths and paved roads with vehicle access.

Fernan Lake, East End

A good stop to look at Fernan Lake and adjacent marshy and forested areas. You might find migrating or nesting waterfowl, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, and many other species. There are many places to stop along this popular lake or continue up into the national forest.

Type of trails: Paved parking lot and boat launch, no trails
